Early departure from Fes. Drive south through the alpine town of Ifrane — known as Morocco’s “Little Switzerland” — and the cedar forests of Azrou, where wild Barbary macaques roam freely among the trees. Lunch stop in Midelt, the apple city of the Middle Atlas. Continue south, crossing the dramatic Ziz Gorge — a deep canyon lined with thousands of palm trees stretching to the horizon. Arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon at the edge of the Sahara. Mount your camel for a guided sunset trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes — some of the highest in Morocco, rising to 150 meters. Arrive at your luxury desert camp as the sky turns red and gold. Traditional Moroccan dinner around the fire with live Gnawa drumming and music under a canopy of stars.
Overnight: Luxury desert camp, Erg Chebbi
Wake before sunrise for the dawn over the dunes — a moment of extraordinary stillness and color. Camel ride back to Merzouga village. This day is yours to use as you wish. Active options: guided 4×4 dune excursion into the deep Sahara, sandboarding down the dunes, or a visit to the Gnawa musicians’ village of Khamlia for traditional music. Relaxed option: spend the day by the dunes, visit a traditional Berber nomad family near Merzouga, explore the local fossil and mineral market, or simply rest at your hotel with views of the Erg Chebbi from your terrace. This unhurried day in the Sahara is one of the most memorable of the entire journey.

Lunch in the medina. Afternoon free — optional visits to the Majorelle Garden, the Mellah, or the Yves Saint Laurent Museum. Evening on the Djemaa el-Fna — the square transforms at night into an unforgettable spectacle of food, smoke, music, and light.

Afternoon guided walk: the sea ramparts built by a Portuguese engineer in the 18th century, the blue-painted fishing port, the medina souks famous for their thuya woodworking and art galleries, and the wide Atlantic beach. Essaouira has a uniquely relaxed, creative atmosphere unlike any other Moroccan city — it has been a haven for artists and musicians for decades. Fresh grilled fish at the port grill stalls for dinner.
Overnight: Essaouira medina riad
After breakfast, depart Essaouira for your chosen departure airport. Option A — Casablanca Airport (CMN): drive north approximately 3.5 hours along the Atlantic coast through El Jadida and the green Doukkala plains.
